Taxi and Fleet Training with ECOSAFE Driving School

TAXI Training

ECOSAFE Driving School prides itself in the high quality coaching tuition that it provides to all drivers. Our patient and friendly instructors’ aims are to make your learning enjoyable and fun. This innovative way of teaching is far more beneficial to all students and doesn’t just teach you to pass your driving test but equips you with the knowledge of ‘Safe Driving for Life’.

There are several very important stages that you must go through to become a fully licensed taxi driver, you cannot just get into a car and begin taxi driving. The steps are as follows:

1. Complete a basic application form at the Licensing Department.  You will then automatically get booked onto a Maths & English assessment, once you have achieved the correct level of marks in this assessment you will then be given a date for a knowledge test. This will test you on your knowledge of Sheffield's roads and places of interest in and around the City.

2. After you have successfully completed this stage, you can then go ahead and book a driving test.

3. Once you have passed your driving test you can then make a full application for a Private Hire & Hackney Carriage Taxi Licence. The cost for this application includes the price of a full CRB check by South Yorkshire Police, as well as a DVLA check. This will provide the Licensing Department with full details on your criminal record, if you have one, as well as your driving history. Once these details have come back they will be thoroughly checked by the Licensing Department.

4. In the meantime, you will be given a date for a medical examination with the City Council’s appointed Doctor.

After all your relevant checks have come back satisfactory and you have passed your medical then you will be granted a 'badge' by the Licensing Department.

FLEET Training

“The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974” requires you to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all employees while at work. You also have a responsibility to ensure that others are not put at risk by your work-related driving activities. Under the management of Health and Safety at Work regulations 1999, you have a responsibility to manage health and safety of your employees, while they are at work, and to other people who may be affected by their work activities. The regulations require you to periodically review your risk assessment so that it remains appropriate.” ...HSE – Driving at Work

At ECOSAFE we believe a company will benefit from a Fleet risk assessment programme. With a programme in place the benefits are:

Reduced accident losses
More effective vehicle use
Less downtime
Improved safety culture
Improved public image
Higher staff morale
Lower insurance premiums
Lower transport costs
Defence against criminal prosecutions and civil litigation
Improved business performance

The programme would be tailored to individual drivers to determine their personal level of risk. The amount of coaching required will depend upon the individual’s assessed level of risk (Low, Medium, and High):

Low Risk – No coaching required
Medium Risk – In class training
High Risk – In car coaching

ECOSAFE fleet training can be a very cost effective way of implementing ‘Safe Driving for Life’ and ‘Eco Driving’ among company vehicle drivers and promoting an improved safety culture within a company.
